Tips:
1) For Compression Types with fixed aspect ratios, the change of aspect ratio may not effect on the output video. For example, if you select DV/DVCPRO-NTSC in Compression Type box, and you changed the Aspect Ratio from 4:3 to 16:9, the output file will still be 4:3, because NTSC has its fixed Aspect Ratio.
2) All codecs are perfectly supported playing in QuickTime Player.
3) What codecs can be imported without rendering?
a. If you are editing with FCE, Apple Intermediate Codec is recommended.
b. If you are editing with FCP 6 or later, Apple ProRes is recommended.
c. If you are editing with Avid, Avid DNxHD Codec is recommended.
More about Apple ProRes:
1) If you want to convert to Apple ProRes 422 and Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), FCP 6 or higher version should be installed on your Mac. And as for Apple Pro Res 422 (LT), Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy) and Apple ProRes 4444, you need FCP 7 or later to be installed. Please find more information here.
2) iHDClip should be installed after FCP.
3) For Final Cut Pro 5 or lower version, Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC)(*.mov) is recommended for its pristine quality, economical hardware configurations and high-performance, multistream real-time editing. You can download the Apple Intermediate Codec here.
